“My friend just died. I don’t know what to do.”

Re-posting this here –

“Alright, here goes. I’m old. What that means is that I’ve survived (so far) and a lot of people I’ve known and loved did not.

I’ve lost friends, best friends, acquaintances, co-workers, grandparents, mom, relatives, teachers, mentors, students, neighbors, and a host of other folks. I have no children, and I can’t imagine the pain it must be to lose a child. But here’s my two cents.

I wish I could say you get used to people dying. I never did. I don’t want to. It tears a hole through me whenever somebody I love dies, no matter the circumstances. But I don’t want it to “not matter”. I don’t want it to be something that just passes.

My scars are a testament to the love and the relationship that I had for and with that person. And if the scar is deep, so was the love. So be it. Scars are a testament to life. Scars are a testament that I can love deeply and live deeply and be cut, or even gouged, and that I can heal and continue to live and continue to love. And the scar tissue is stronger than the original flesh ever was. Scars are a testament to life. Scars are only ugly to people who can’t see.

As for grief, you’ll find it comes in waves. When the ship is first wrecked, you’re drowning, with wreckage all around you. Everything floating around you reminds you of the beauty and the magnificence of the ship that was, and is no more. And all you can do is float. You find some piece of the wreckage and you hang on for a while. Maybe it’s some physical thing. Maybe it’s a happy memory or a photograph. Maybe it’s a person who is also floating. For a while, all you can do is float. Stay alive.

In the beginning, the waves are 100 feet tall and crash over you without mercy. They come 10 seconds apart and don’t even give you time to catch your breath. All you can do is hang on and float. After a while, maybe weeks, maybe months, you’ll find the waves are still 100 feet tall, but they come further apart. When they come, they still crash all over you and wipe you out. But in between, you can breathe, you can function.

You never know what’s going to trigger the grief. It might be a song, a picture, a street intersection, the smell of a cup of coffee. It can be just about anything…and the wave comes crashing. But in between waves, there is life.

Somewhere down the line, and it’s different for everybody, you find that the waves are only 80 feet tall. Or 50 feet tall. And while they still come, they come further apart. You can see them coming. An anniversary, a birthday, or Christmas, or landing at O’Hare. You can see it coming, for the most part, and prepare yourself. And when it washes over you, you know that somehow you will, again, come out the other side. Soaking wet, sputtering, still hanging on to some tiny piece of the wreckage, but you’ll come out.

Take it from an old guy. The waves never stop coming, and somehow you don’t really want them to. But you learn that you’ll survive them. And other waves will come. And you’ll survive them too. If you’re lucky, you’ll have lots of scars from lots of loves. And lots of shipwrecks.”

What is a great dip recipe or idea for crackers or chips?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Lexi,

If you like pizza, you will love this recipe.

Equal parts of:

Kraft Miracle Whip (Don’t use mayonnaise, you need the tang of Miracle Whip)

Shredded Mozzarella Cheese (Don’t use the expensive fresh.).

Diced or Sliced Jalapenos, In a can, Drained, Liquid set aside.

Artichoke Hearts with liquid.

Add all ingredients into oven safe dish, mix together, taste. If it needs a little more heat, add some of the liquid that you saved from the canned jalapenos.

Bake at 300-350 for about 1/2 hour. If you need to re-heat through your party/event — this microwaves well. If you didn’t want to use your oven, microwave from beginning for about 10 minutes, it will taste just as good.

Good Eating,

James in San Diego

p.s. I just remembered another one:

2 Packages of Cream Cheese – Room Temperature.

1 Jar (5 or 6 oz.) of Sun Dried Tomatoes (in oil, drained) OR

1 Jar (5 or 6 oz.) of Roasted Red Peppers

Put cheese and Tomatoes (OR peppers) into Food Processor (You can use a blender, but you’ll have to keep scraping the sides, more than you would have to the food processor).

When finished, refrigerate.

That one is sinful!

Can you spoil a 7 month old baby?

Hey Jennifer,

YUP!

What you are talking about — EVERY PARENT experiences!

Behavior! Either you modify it or IT will modify YOU!

It’s OK to let the baby cry. This will not last for long. If you don’t modify your behavior, as the years go on, you will witness fits while in line at the Grocery Store. Tantrums while at the Toy store and worse.

Do you really want a teenager that rebels so bad when you tell him he can’t spend the evening/weekend etc with someone you don’t trust?

Start now or forever hold your peace!

Just my opinion,

if you drink alchol the night before a blood test , will it show up?

Hey Newman,

Well, it will depend on how much and when. If you were to have a glass or two of wine at 6pm and the test is at 10am the next morning, the chances are VERY slim.

You go to a bachlorette party and get home at 3am and the test is at the same time, you are busted!

Hope you ain’t in trouble!

More and more wines are being sold in a box. What do think do you think about that?

Hey Soar,

I found out years ago, the secret to wine tasting. It’s a very specific talent, that may take years of training and the average person might not fathom this concept — but here goes!

The best wine to drink….

Is the wine that you enjoy!

Box, Bottle, Vat… Who cares!

If you like it, then it’s the best wine in the world. Just don’t limit yourself. (Years ago, I used to like Sutter Home! After tasting many different wines, I realized that it was the worst wine I HAD EVER TASTED! That, shouldn’t take away the millions of people every year that buy Sutter Home — Just not my cup of tea… er, Wine!

Good Drinking,

Is yogurt really alive when you eat it?

Hey Edna,

YUP! Alive as you and I are!

Anything that can grow mold (Milk, Cheese, Bread, Meat) is a living organism. Lucky for us, it is not able to walk out of our fridge.

That being said (before everyone jumps on my case) — The LIVING part happens to be the organisms that live off the host. Living organisms (except us and a few insects) don’t eat dead things (I’m not talking about the dead cow, it’s organs still have living things in them) That’s why we don’t have animals digging up things that have been dead for months for a quick meal.

Under a microscope, you might not see things “moving around”, but you will definitely see living organisms.

I live in the south. Would it be too country for me to have fried chicken at my reception?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Mark’s wife – 2 – B!

When my wife and I were to get married, her mother had these plans for a reception that would have made a state dinner look like a hot dog cook-off! There were two caterers, an expensive hall, flowers from every florist that she could find in the pages of the phone book :-s !

Kathy & I needed a break, so one weekend we went up to Northern California to go hiking, we came across this older church, nothing spectacular, and we started talking… to make a long story short,

Our wedding and reception was at a small white church in Long Beach, California. We served fried chicken and all the fixins on picnic tables set-up behind the church. We had no live band but we did have music. The children were able to run around and chase each other. We had a country wedding and neither of us are from the country or the South.

My wife has been gone for 15 years now, but I still have my favorite picture. It is Kathy, resting against an oak tree in the church yard. Sleeping on her lap is our flower girl. Kathy is playing with the flower girls hair by touching the baby’s breath that was in the hair.

That day, TRULY was about love and families!

I hope you have a blessed day, no matter what you serve!

Congratulations!

Alcohol prohibtion in U.S.A . possible or impossible ?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Citizen,

Well, since they tried Prohibition in the 1920’s (by Constitutional amendment, no less!), and it didn’t work!

Since they have never legalized Marijuana, and you can get it on most street corners/from friends.

Since they will never be able to prohibit tranquilizers or other sedatives;

And since the governments make sooo much money in taxes on booze, my guess is:

NOPE!

Great question, though!

How are the prices at The Cheesecake Factory and is it a kid friendly place?

Hey Mom,

I don’t believe that most kids would like it. It’s not kid friendly in the design.

You will wait for up to an hour (more on the weekends)!

The waiting are has VERY little seating, so for that hour+ you are standing.

Unless your kids are drones or Borgs, they probably will want a play area or at least a place to chase each other around and act like kids! This would be lacking in any of those amenities.

Plus, the food is not only priced like Olive Garden, it’s on the same level. If you are going to wait an hour+ to be seated and another 1/2 hour to get food, SHOULDN’T IT BE A GREAT MEAL?

Just my opinion!

how do fast food resturants make their food soooo good?

Hey ……..,

I agree, they don’t use MSG, but they do use seasoned salt (Salt with spices like Paprika).

Salt/Seasoning + Fat = Flavor!

Sorry, there are not a whole lot of substitutions.

I don’t like salt… So I try not to add it to my cooking, Sadly, I can tell the difference 🙁

why is it so hard to find a good relationship after so many failed ones?

Hey Suzanne,

I am a guy/dog. I don’t have much luck with relationships. It actually got so bad that I’ve just put them on hold for awhile.

In my experience, I find that I bring my past experiences to the dinner table/date/conversations with me.

I also seem to compare that person to how my successful relationships have been.

So in actuality, I am bringing another person with me — always.

Until I stop comparing my date to others, I’m going to stop for awhile.

What do you order when you go to Buca di Beppo?

Favorite Answer:

Hello Bastet,

My personal preference for having at Buca di Beppo is ….

TUMS – And lot’s of them.

I have been there twice, I have an iron stomach and can eat most any food but both times I’ve gone there, I have had the worst heartburn/stomach ache! I don’t know what it is, but this never happens at any other place.

It could also be the fact that for some reason my friends I’ve gone with don’t seem to have a problem waiting 1 hour to be seated.

If you forget TUMS, then I go with the first gal…. WINE and Lots of it!

If the church condemns the drinking of alcohol…Why did Jesus turn water into wine at a wedding???

Hey Mama,

I don’t believe that the “Church” condemns drinking alcohol. I believe that “Some Churches” believe that you shouldn’t drink. Those churches are usually Evangelical – (Baptist, Church of God, Four Square, Quaker) or are group churches (Latter Day Sts., Christian Scientist…)

I think the confusion is that most churches feel (as the bible also states) that you should not be UNDER THE INFLUENCE.

In Jesus time, water was usually unfit to drink (remember, that was their tub, shower, laundry, Ox bath, floor cleaner….) so most civilizations made their water into spirits as a way to make it fit to drink.

As early as a few generations ago, Beer and Wine surpassed water, tea, milk and hard liquor as the beverage of choice for most people around the world.

where to buy chroma type 301 by f.a Porsche knives in las Vegas NV?

Favorite Answer:

Well Stan,

If you don’t mind the price there are several places that sell them along the strip.

They are the Sur La Table at Caesars Forum

the Crate & Barrel at Caesars Forum

Ah Sin at the Paris Hotel

A little more affordable are:

Las Vegas Safe & Knife, they’re about 2000 Rainbow Road (parallel to the strip). I don’t know if they will carry Porshe, but you can call)

Or even better;

Ask chefs while you are in Las Vegas, they will know of new and used knives available. Also try one of the many cooking schools, same criteria.

Does anyone have a recipe for angel cake?

Hey Sheng,

While it’s not difficult to make, only eggs, flour, vanilla and some butter and sugar, with all the separating of eggs to whip and fold into the yolks and flour, I honestly find it easier and less hassel to buy it from store ( especially since it is only available in small loaves or in that cake form with the hole!)

Trust me, any time I can spend < $3.50 and save myself two hours of prep and cook, is money WELL SPENT!

why are all the seven elevens owned by indians?

Favorite Answer:

Dear Proud,

Mainly the reason that you see only foreign born persons owning convenience stores is very simple….

We are TOO LAZY!

Running a convenience store is long hours and hard work. You will work many hours alone, mostly on your feet, with no breaks. When was the last time that you went into a convenience store and found the clerk gabbing on the phone? I have only seen it once.

If these places were such Tax hideouts, you would see every Doctor and Lawyer in America working at or owning one!

And as to your ALL and INDIANS, I know of many 7/11’a and Arco Mini Marts and such that are owned by African refugees, Iraqi’s and Muslims from the Mideast. I haven’t seen any here in San Diego owned by Indians. Now there are a lot of Mom & Pop motels here in San Diego owned by Indians, but that is because of the huge Tax benefits that the stooopid people keep talking about…!

Is religion not racist?

Hey B.W.,

I believe RELIGION is racist. If it weren’t then you would not have killings/ethnic strife based on the will of God/god/a god.

However, racisim is a learned trait. We are not born that way!

So, maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks. Racisim can be unlearned…It just takes an open heart 🙂

James

P.S.

Oops, Lou 300;

You say that religion SHOULD teach tolerance. It usually doesn’t. If it did, you wouldn’t have them demonstrating against such things as gay marriage, Terry Shaivo, or shouting down people at Military Funerals (Westboro Baptist Church).

Sorry!

what if alcohol was never invented???

Favorite Answer:

Well Jason,

If you are not including the earliest uses of alcohol (making water potable, anesthesia in surgery, disinfecting wounds, preserving food) and you are only referring to alcohols bad rap, then I would have to say;

1). We would probably be a little more uptight.

2). Murders / Suicides / Rapes would be much lower.

3). Ugly people would probably never get laid.

4). Good looking people would be lousier lays.

5). Smokers would take A LOT more heat, (Driving while smoking… Hey, someones got to pay those fines!).

6). We would have “Milk Bars” and milk would be taxed up the yin-yang.

7). We would have to blame ourselves for our children’s failures!

AND LASTLY, Yes, we would still have wars. You said no Alcohol, you didn’t say “No Male Testosterone!”

How many drinks a day is harmful?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Spike,

The American Medical Association and the Surgeon General have stated that they feel that no more than two drinks a day is beneficial. Red wine is supposed to be the most beneficial due to the anti-oxidants (however, they don’t mention the sulfites, which are supposed to be harmful to everyone). Beer is supposed to be the next best alcohol you can drink.

Remember, women who are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant should never have alcohol.

That being said, the former actor, singer and vaudevillian, George Burns used to have two glasses of scotch and two cigars per day and he lived to 99! So, I guess, everything in moderation!

2000 s-10 chevy, the ac blows cold for less than a minute, then blows luke warm to hot, what could be wrong?

Favorite Answer:

Hey 78,

My best educated guess is that the last time freon was filled, the system was not evacuated completely. If you have had freon in system less than 2 seasons, have your mechanic (or you , if you have the knowledge) capture your freon, then FULLY EVACUATE the system (this is done with either a second capture canister, or can be done with reverse compressor).

Re-fill with your old freon. Your mechanic may be able to test your freon for stability, it’s possible that it is contaminated.

Second guess, possible gauge malfunction. You will find this out when you evacuate the system. You can try the old standard, tap it a few times…. But since you will be evacuating the freon anyway, this is a no-charge check.

Lastly, Check out your tension on the belt to your compressor. It is possible that condenser is not making proper contact, so when you first turn on your A/C the bit of freon near the mouth of compressor cools the air, but if freon doesn’t move through compressor, it will never fully cool system. (You will probably see ice form near the freon inlet on your compressor).

Good luck…. Stay cool!

Anyone know the process of re-opening a case?

Favorite Answer:

Hello Poet,

I am assuming that the District Attorney has decided not to pursue this case and that there are no known possible suspects … (You say “verdict”, but I am assuming that there was no trial. If this is not the case, please send me an e-mail).

The usual ways to re-open a case like this is to:

a). Find evidence that was not considered in the original investigation. The evidence should be “without prejudice”, meaning that it “should” not be used to paint a picture customized to your liking (e.g. Shell location, unless you hire an ammunition expert that will testify that a certain gun and a certain ammo will behave in such a way XX% of the time…) and that the evidence should be timely and relevant ( A diary entry 2 weeks before the death that says “… Joe threatened to blow my head off again today if I didn’t pay him for the crank!”, as opposed to an entry from 10 years ago that says “Joe is gonna kill me if he ever finds out I kissed Mike!”). Lack of new evidence, means that your only recourse is to look at the old evidence.

b). Looking at the old evidence. You say no Gun Shot Residue test was done, do you know if there was evidence that showed burns against the skin or clothes? (Many times a detective will not perform test if they know that a burn pattern ALWAYS will show evidence of a gun position). Was the deceased a long time heroine user (Tolerance; You may be passed out at .020 mgs but a long time user may be functional at .85 or higher…. If someone was trying to kill the deceased, USUALLY at 1.5 or higher they will go into coma and never wake up (Emphasis is on usually)). If you and other witnesses know that deceased was not a long term drug user AND they had no access to guns OR Just got engaged AND … (Fill in the blank with other theory’s) then you have enough evidence to contact the District Attorney.

District Attorney: Their job is to seek justice, Period! Many will argue a case into the ground because of their own personal spin or their ego. The D.A. is also relying on your County Coroner to provide his/her expertise on the matter. Is your coroner also your local Funeral Undertaker? If so, you may have to ask the state board of your state to request a Coroners Inquest. (Be forewarned, the C.I. usually is headed by your local coroner). Ask to meet with the D.A. and present your case in a clear and concise manner. If the D.A. refuses to hear your version of what may have happened, you have three clear options:

1). Contact your State Attorney General, ask to present your evidence and see if they can help in your pursuit.

2). Go to court and sue. You can present your evidence in front of a judge and he or she will decide if there is enough evidence to warrant a re-opening of the case.

3). If there is a chance that the deceased was discriminated against ( Gay, Minority, 3xfelon, won a discrimination case against the town, etc.) then you may have a case for Federal jurisdiction. This is a little harder, you have to prove to the Federal Prosecutor that the decedents civil rights were abused. If you know that this is the case, then contact the United States Attorney in your city/state.

None of these options will be quick. Many of these options may require you to shell out some money for tests or private investigators. In any case, If you believe that nothing could be further from the truth than what the police/coroner and the D.A. have concluded, then you are the jury and need to pursue any and all remedies available to you.

Good luck, and sorrow for your loss.

has anyone else heard about the george w and laura bush sex tape???

Favorite Answer:

Hey K.M.,

Yup, I’ve seen it! It isn’t your Tommy Lee/Pam Anderson type of sex tape…It’s a little bit different…

Starts out with Mrs. B bending over the desk in the oval office. Pres says “Hey Pumpkin, wanna play TX rodeo tonight?” She tells him to meet her upstairs in the residence in 1/2 hour. She then goes and hides in the basement.

1/2 hour passes, Pres goes upstairs and puts in a tape where he describes the “Weapons of Mass Destruction”, followed by a tape of Veep presiding over Board meeting at Haliburton. Pres gets turned on by all the excess of power and 3 minutes later, rubs one off for the history books!

Lucky for him… Carl Rove was there with towel to CLEAN UP HIS MESSES!!!

God, this stuff is worth a million bucks…

At least he keeps us bewildered!

Whats a good type of Champagne?

Favorite Answer:

Hey XXHOHO,

I have several nice Champagne’s here at the house. I have 2 bottles of Dom, A Bottle of Domain Chandon and 1 Bottle of Moet Chandon White Star. I have not had a celebration nice enough to break out these bottles, so they sit in my wine cabinet for a dismal day when I get bored and want to celebrate my boredom.

I have started enjoying three different variations of Champagne Methodoise (made in the style of French Champagne).

1), Prosecco – Gentle Bubbles, light and airy – Italian Sparkling

2). Vouvray – Natural French sparkling wine – not as dry as most Meth. Champ.

3). Thorton Wineries (Temecula, California) – Brut. Small, natural bubbles. Crisp yet light taste.

The first 2 are favorites because they are light and airy and you feel that you can drink them with anything. The 3rd one, because I live in San Diego and it’s usually less than $15.00 per bottle.

Also, retail the top two sell for under $30.00 each. You can get them for a better price and a wine specialty shop.

Hope they tickle your nose!

James

P.S. I notice that Fadi states that you should always get the oldest. Remeber, with wine it goes by color;

White – Keep it young, under 3 years.

Pink – Date a Kid – No more than 5 years.

Red – This is the Oldster in the group. Best when between 5 and 10 years, the darker Burgandys at the long end and the lighter like Merlot at the younger end.

Remember, Wine does not achieve anything once it is bottled. All of the aging and flavoring takes place in the barrels. So if you stumble onto a bottle of 1947 Beaugaulais, it’s probably about the same condition as that box of Peter Vella Red Table wine!

Champagne is never aged, and is rarely stored for any lenght of time in barrels. Once it is bottled, it is put into riddling racks to let the sediments gather at the top of the bottle. Take a champagne wine tour sometime! I found it the best hour I ever spent around wine!

Can you tell me something Random and off the wall?

OK Sonny,

The following inventions have a lot in common:

1). Teflon

2). Post-It-Note’s

3). WD-40

4). The Clapper (Turns light’s on when you make a noise)

5). The Toaster

6). Bar Bath Soap

They were all invented for entirely different uses:

1). Teflon was invented as a way to make torpedo’s glide more on target after entering the water (it didn’t work too well).

2). Post-It-Note’s were originally meant to add medical notes into patients files temporarily, but the sticky didn’t stay stuck. A tackier sticky was used, but it removed ink and paper.

3). WD-40 was invented for the Defense industry to remove water from underwater electronics (WD means; Water Displacement). It was their 40th formula (they now have like 62) and while it works very well, they sell much more for household use (Water Displacement is not a household use.).

4). The Clapper was meant as a cheaper version of a heat sensor/motion detector in Burglar Alarm/Security systems. The problem ended up being that If the microphone was set to high, a pet or even an A/C system would set it off. Set too low, and a burglar would literally have to clap in order to set off the alarm.

5). The Toaster was meant to melt butter or cheese onto muffins or biscuits. Sliced bread wasn’t invented until 20 years after the toaster.

6). Bar Bath Soap. Lye soap was very difficult to use while washing clothes. It was difficult to apply the soap and difficult to carry away once you were done cleaning the laundry you were doing. A bar made it much easier to apply.

Sorry, nothing off the wall :-p Just a little something to make your night go a little faster!

Please!!! who is EDNA? I keep reading her name??? tell me!?

Hey Rania,

I am pretty sure that what you are referring to is the ENDA.

It is constantly bantered around in the press. Almost every time I read it I go dyslexic and read it as EDNA.

If this is what you are asking about, then it stands for:

Employment

Non

Discrimination

Act

It keeps on coming up every year in Congress. Tirelessly supported by Sen. Ted Kennedy (D) Mass., it states that no law shall be adopted that would bar access to any person based on perceived or actual sexual orientation. Of the 14 states that have adopted it, 12 use it as a guide for housing and education. Only 2 stated use it for employment only (California and Florida).

If this is not what you were thinking of, then my vote is with the Dame Edna story above!

Thanks,

Sorry Nobodiesinc,

You have a double edged sword. Try the other question….

Why do Christians think what they believe is right?

You are going to throw the Bible in my face… I will just throw pre-bible books right back at you.

Why do so many people simply believe what they are told?

I really can’t believe you!

You just asked a question about Non-Christians not following your way… And then you spout some crap about blindly following!

That is what you are doing!

Do you have any idea where you are coming from? Do you even care what other opinions are? I think not!

I think you are just a rubber stamp that keeps on making copies!

Good luck!

Do you believe that Christ is a man with special characteristics, but still a man and not God?

Hey Paulo,

I am perplexed.

Non-Christians (Jews) tell you that if they believe in Jesus of Nazareth, then they believe that he was a teacher a rabbi. Human in every way, but cut from the same cloth that any religious leader is from.

Scientists say that he might be no more than Buddha, Mohamed, Mother Theresa, Rev. Martin Luther King or the Dali Llama. A very Spiritual teacher with incredible insight and thought processes that transcend logical thought.

Christians (Protestants) say he is the son of God. He is the light and the way. The only way you can get into the afterlife (Heaven) is by accepting him into your heart.

Catholics believe that he is part of the Trinity. By believing in him as the Son of God, the Holy Ghost and in God, the almighty — that this belief alone will get you into the pearly gates.

Atheists think he is no different than Brigham Young (Mormons), L. Ron Hubbard (Scientology), Mary Baker Eddy (Christian Scientist), Jim Jones (People’s Temple – Reaffirmed) or even David Korresh (Branch Dividian). Just a cult leader with a better public relations campaign.

What do I think…. I think we put a ton of trust in what others think.

Thanks,

James

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Paulo, I am perplexed, again! Why would you quote a book that was written before most people could read? That would be like me performing surgery on your body with a book of the same era. Would you trust a doctor to use a text book from that time to operate on your body or diagnose a disease? Then why quote as factual a book from that same era?

Just a little to think about!

What is the trick to a perfect Mojito?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Cheerio lafs,

I have found the easiest way is not to use a mortar and pestle, but a simple wooden muddle (looks like a small baseball bat). This way you crush the mint with the sugar – IN THE GLASS! There is no need to clean out any other utensils.

Add ice.

Add favorite light colored rum.

I like the brightness of a squeeze of fresh lime. You can’t really tell, but it seems to brighten-up all the flavors!

Happy Drinking!

How do you open a Keg?

Hey Billy,

Those commercial kegs are NOT MEANT TO BE OPENED!

Even if the keg seems empty, there is still allot of gas left in the keg. If you will look at the keg, there is only one way to get into it and that is from the top. Budweiser and other breweries have a special tool that they use to remove the tap at the top.

I have bartended for many years. I wouldn’t even want to try to get one open!

Please be safe!

Does anyone ship scotch to NJ?

Hey Shomeret,

Is Rachel Rays show made in her kitchen or somewhere else?

Hey Dezzy,

As someone else said, it is in the Food Network studios on Park Avenue in New York, NY. There is this cool farmers style market on the ground floor of the building.

A few interesting notes; Her stove is a 1951 Chambers stove, her knife is a Wustof Santoku (double hollow edge with the Gran Prix handle) and she finally married her sweetheart this past spring; John Cusimano (a literal translation; John Food Man).

She’s the best, isn’t she?

Good Eating,

I’m looking for a 10 qt enamel kettle (pot) with a spout at the bottom of the pot. Its great to make ice tea

Hey Charlette,

10 qt kettle is kinda big for putting in the fridge when you’re done. I think I have an idea for what might work for you. It’s a plastic dispenser with a base. They sell them at any restaurant supply store. They are easy because you will put the desired tea into a coffee maker, brew the same tea bags twice, each time let the tea bags steep in the hot water for several minutes. Place hot tea in dispenser, then after brewed tea cools slightly in the dispenser, add equal amount of ice to taste.

Perfect iced tea every time and the dispenser separates from base and it sits nicely in your fridge!

Enjoy,

James

Which site will help me more about consumer awareness?

Hey Mahe,

I guess I should break my answer into two several parts:

1). For product information (specifications, testing, pricing) you can’t beat “Consumer Reports” add on for electronics “Underwriters Laboratories”.

2). For Consumer Education (As muck as I enjoy the WWW), I really need to suggest a good local research librarian at your library. They will have the most up to date “relevant” information that you need.

3). Friends. They will help whittle down the garbage. I can post on the web that “XYZ Company killed 1200 baby puppies last week!” and suddenly it is now listed somewhere on the web under “XYZ Company” — So much for unbiased reporting. (See also “relevant”, above)

Why do Muslims hate Jews read and give me an opinion about it?

Hey Amateur,

I have read both of the arguments as well as the outline that you have listed above. What I believe is the not coherent portion of your argument is that Husseini was an opportunist at best and trying to carve out his own little bastion of domicile at the least! Most of the politicians of pre-war and post war Europe/Mideast were trying to figure out who was going to grab what (United States, as well).

Your major question can not be answered by any human, with any sense of authority. You could ask the same question and change the words “Muslims” and “Jews” to read “Blacks” and “Koreans”; “Skinny People” and “Fat People” the list can go on and on ad-nauseum. Years ago, the argument used to come up as to why “Christians” hated “Jews”. My Jewish friends and my Christian friends would debate this for hours, throwing biblical scriptures around, purporting to know theology better than the other, basically strutting around like peacocks. Were any of us right? We were in our minds…

Years ago, my mother got into a terrible fight with a next door neighbor. She was so mad she said “One of these days, I am going to sell this house… And when I do, I am going to sell it to a BLACK FAMILY!” Now, that’s a revenge! (well at least 1969, middle America style).

The problem with most “Religious” groups, as I SEE IT –(emphasis is mine!), Is that so many wars go back thousands of years, to a date and time where great umbrage was inflicted! In the U.S. today, we have a religious belief that allowing certain groups to “Marry” will ruin the Sanctity of marriage! (Oh, the Umbrage) — but we have no outcry for outlawing Divorce. In China, the government regularly rounds up dissidents and jails them for speaking out against the current government (Oh, the Umbrage) — but in the U.S. / Europe we are holding many Muslims for speaking out against the current government. In Ethiopia, as well as several other countries of Africa, they are having civil wars that are responsible for “Ethnic Cleansing”, (Oh the Umbrage) — In the United States (1864 – 68) and in U.S.S.R. (1917 – 1925) there were two very large Civil wars, as well as an uprising in Beijing in the late 1990’s, that did basically the same thing.

We don’t try to understand or learn from our IGNORANCE. I have decided, because my brain is bigger than yours, that the color BLUE disgusts me! It just happens to be your favorite color! All of my friends hate the color Blue, and now, SO DO I! I have made an educated guess that the color BLUE must be bad, because history, my friends, my society has all told me to not accept that color! What I need, more than anything else, is to spend some time in a BLUE ROOM!

Years ago, there was a “Nightline” show that was presented as a “Town-hall Meeting” on the problems that were continuing the war between Israel and Palestine. There were several members of the Knesset and the Palestine Authority on the panel. I was so amazed to watch this. Ted Koppel would ask a question, and the men would pound their fists and grab their faces… yelling at each other about how right they were and how wrong the other side was. There were several remarkable differences. Each side had several female members of the governing bodies. When they spoke, they spoke with empathy. When they listened, they listened with earnest at what the opposing party had to say. They saw their jobs as LEARNING how to END the conflict. The men saw their jobs as FINDING how to WIN the conflict!

Until we are able to listen, earnestly….

Until we are able to speak with empathy….

Until we are able to spend time in your room….

Until you are able to spend time in our room…

Until we can stop pounding our fists…

Until we can understand that no one will ever be just like us…

Until we are able to open our Hearts and our Minds…

Until we truly learn how to love…

… There can never be an end to Hatred, whomever or wherever or whatever is involved!

And that, sadly, will probably destroy us all!

Hope my opinion was not to simplistic!

Thanks for your time,

James

Will the 400.000 embryo’s that won’t be used for stem cell research now be trashed as medical waste?

Hey Angel,

Please understand that the Papers and the News programs are in the business of making money and they will spew whatever crap will sell the most papers and the most air time!

His lordship G.W. Bush, vetoed a bill that would have APPROVED federal funding for NEW Stem Cell Research. It didn’t stop the research. In fact, there are still two dozen lines of embryo’s that are already approved and will continue to receive Federal Funding. Sadly, these are basically, “cloned” cells. Nothing more than donor “A”‘s eggs, and donor “B”‘s sperm. So any experiments will have the same result, embryo after embryo. There are currently several states that have started state funding of Stem Cells, sadly, all are in litigation.

But, chin-up! Write your congress, write his lordship, write your governor. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease! Just learn to be squeakier than the right wing ! (Think ACT-UP meets Cindy Sheehan !).

James

p.s. An Aside to Josh R. Josh, most stem cells used in Embryonic research are what is left over when Mrs. A would like to get pregnant and Mr. A is not able to plant the seed. The Fertility Clinic Extracts 15-30 eggs from Mrs. A, and then tests them for age and viability. They then take samples of Mr. A’s sperm, test them for viability and strength. If both sides work out, then they fertilize all of the harvested eggs and put them in the deep freeze and wait until Mrs. A reaches estrus. When she is ready they implant 1 egg, and so on until she gets pregnant. Leaving the remaining eggs in the deep freeze.

If both sides don’t work out, then they go for donor eggs and sperm. Repeat above steps, store balance in deep freeze.

If Mr. and Mrs. A really don’t want to have all 30 or so kids, they have a little bit of waste to figure out what to do with. There are 30 or so fertilized eggs in the deep freeze, that should probably be sent down the drain, but it’s medical waste, so you should package it or something…. So they put it in the same container with your bad kidney stones, or that abscess you had removed, or that fat you had sucked out this morning. Yup, all of it in the same hole!

B-T-W, not a whole lot of use for aborted babies! See once they’re dead, they’re….er…. well… DEAD! Unless they can figure out a way to freeze them before they are removed from the womb, they are kinda useless, well except for scaring the crap out of someone!

Thanks

Who is the MOST HANDSOME GUY IN THE WoRLD???

Hey HymNs,

I am sorry, I have to list three, in no particular order:

1). My ferret Zorro! since he looks nearly identical to the other two (they’re girlz) he doesn’t know he’s handsome. At 90 times his size, he is still valiant in trying to take me down. He’s happy when he finds a raisin that he dropped earlier in the week.

2). My cat Jello. At 16, he thinks that he is still a kitten and at 26 lbs, he still tries to get up on my chest while I am sleeping thinking that I won’t notice.

3). And of course,

You!

😀

James

P.S. I think I also have to add:

1). Pee-Wee Herman (seem’s to rank same as you)

2). Adam P. (Great picture — Maybe not the most handsome, but worth a second look . :-D)

What is your favorite drink that is set on fire? Do you drink it while it is lit or do you blow it out first?

Hey Princess,

I usually try to give your questions real thought….

This time, I have to stay in line with Polyester Fred!

Enjoy,

Send us the address as to where to send the cards and flowers.

Does anyone remember the drink “snake eyes” You bought it from the store, it’s not a mixed drink.

Favorite Answer:

Hey Mindy,

Are you sure it was not a copy of a shot that was known as “Snake Bite”? That shot was Yukon Jack + Lime Juice.

It would have had a orange + lime flavor to it!

What do you say about the clash of “ZADINE” in world cup final? Was red card justified and and ban by FIFA?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Handsome Stranger,

As sorry as I am to admit it, Red Card was justified. Ban was just face saving, (For Christ sakes, it was the guy’s last game!), it was a way for the officials to say “BAD BOY!” and not look like they weren’t relishing the continued re-plays in country after country.

I have to look at it this way, let’s pretend that you work (not a big stretch), and let’s say you work very hard, (again, not a big stretch), and let’s say you have this project that you’ve been working on for the last few months and today is the day you present your project to your bosses. ENTER: S’Nardly Nodick!

S’Nardly says that your project is so juvenile, that your sister could pay to suck his left nut and the project would still suck more than she could!

You have two responses:

Head butt him – And probably get fired!

Go to the bosses and say, “You are not going to believe what just happened in the hallway!”, “I personally have never heard such crap from a supposed professional”. – They will investigate and may or may not do anything to S’Nardly–but he’s on another project team and you’re taking a promotion, so you probably will not have any more interactions with him!

Does taking the second option make you a wimp? Yep! but a wimp who still has a job and who knows if he is ever in the same room with S’Nardly again…You’ll definitely let him know that his sister does swallow!

You and I don’t worry about such things… Zidane will have so much money in endorsements for years to come that his employment picture is guaranteed!

I, However, would have loved to be able to put forward a product (Zidane) to endorsers that would have included one final World Cup win! None of that can be changed, now.

Just my opinion!

Why are most bbq places closed on Sundays?

Hey Bran,

When I spent time in the South, the reason that I saw many (Not just bbq joints) places closed on Sundays was that it is the time for family. It may also be that family includes bbq ing at home on Sundays

Shakey’s Pizza & Buffet?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Cecilia,

Shakey’s was a product of a Guy named Ed Sherwood Johnson, straight out of world war 2. The chain grew and grew until it was sold in the early 70’s.

The ones that you see now are mostly old franchisees that stayed open after the eventual purchase by a group of investors from Japan and the far east. They bankrupt the joint and so now you will see a few that are popping back up through a new company founded by James Kim here in California.

The largest concentration of Shakeys is in the Philippines! There are many more scattered around the world. They no longer have a central headquarters and Franchisers are responsible for training their cooks. I haven’t seen the meatballs and gravy for a few years, but most still have the “mojo Potatoes” and in a funny aside, when I met Mr. Kim, I asked him if they would be bringing back their “Bunch O’ Lunch” buffet?

He said, “Oh, Yes!” — “But you are wrong, it is called “Big ole lunch!”.

So you can see, sometimes, things aren’t like the original…

what do you think of the singer usher???

Favorite Answer:

Hey Little Dudet,

I think he is refreshing, talented, doesn’t seem to be stuck on himself, humble, tries not to go heavy on the bling, real and probably as much fun to hang with as your best friend.

I am not a fan of hip hop or rap! I am not a rabid fan! I only see him on occasional shows and performances! When ever I see him, I don’t see the attitude, I feel he is a man who is just happy as spit that he has the talent that he has.

I hope he has a long and successful career!

Happy listening!

James

p.s. The other day I was flipping through the cable channels and ran a cross a movie from 1998. The movie was “She’s all that!” — I stopped to take a look because they had a scene with a D.J. in it (the D.J. makes several appearances)…

The D.J.’s name….?

Usher Raymond!

Didn’t think he was old enough, huh?

how will u drive a person, who is an enemy of yours, from ur house without his knowledge?

Hey Linza,

I don’t know about this personally, but all of my friends would have the same answer…

BECOME HIS IN-LAW!

If you marry his daughter/sister just try to live in his house or vice-versa. I know my friends want to leave their homes whenever their In-Laws come to stay :-p !

Sorry, I know it’s cheesy

if you’re sexually attracted to both genders but emotionally only to the same, that makes you gay or bi?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Keops,

I grew up thinking that I was Bi. I liked both equally, but society at the time found same sex attraction to be immoral and in most states, illegal. As time went by, I found myself not having sex with women as much as I was with men (AIDS). Now, I will only have anal/vaginal sex with a lover, no casual things.

But, now, I do consider myself GAY. But I don’t think it is the attraction (Sexual vs. Emotional), I think it is more about who do I want sitting next to me — saying nothing — 30 years from now.

Mostly, I think it doesn’t matter, it’s a label. I think you can be Gay and love an opposite sex (even if it’s a Will & Grace thing) –Or Bi and with the same sex, and develop a crush on a opposite sex.

Do you consider yourself Gay or Bi? You are the only judge/jury on this one.

Hope this helps, a little, at least.

James

P.S. I have to argue with Sandy on this one. Once again it is semantics:

Gay = Homosexual

Bi = Bi-Sexual

So sexual is used in both words, so you can’t follow your words to a logical answer, sorry.
